Caffitaly
The Caffitaly System (or Caffita System) is one of the capsule systems for brewing coffee beverages such as espresso, and other beverages as tea. In order to use capsules of the Caffitaly system one has to use the dedicated coffee machines designed for those capsules. The system was developed by the Italian company Gaggia.
Gaggia is also a coffee machine making company, so naturally Gaggia machines, such as the Gaggia Caffitaly K111D home coffee maker are compatible with the system. However, other machine makers such as Saceo with their Saceo Office machine are also compatible.
One of the important aspects of a capsule system is the technology behind its capsules. With Caffitaly the core of the technology is the use of two small filters inside the capsules. Water is forced with pressure through the first filter allowing an even contact with the tightly packed 8 grams (or 0.28 ounces) of coffee grains. When it passes through the second filter, the coffee is extracted and exits as a full-bodied, dense espresso, blanked with a consistent, compact cream.
I put together for you a list of most of the Caffitaly compatible coffee machines. I am personally reviewing the machines these days, so look for my reviews with my take on each machine and detailed specification:

Do you know if you can use normal espresso (not in capsules) in this coffee machine? We just got one as a gift, and it’s gorgeous, but we’d rather have one that uses normal ground coffee.

Hello Nora,
I am not sure which coffee machine you are referring to, but all Caffitaly capsule system machines such as the ones mentioned in my blog are meant for use solely with the Caffitaly system capsules. Those capsule are produced by different manufacturers in Europe, and each manufacturer decides on the different blends of coffee ground to put in the capsules. You cannot use normal ground coffee with these machines.
Try to contact the Caffitaly / Gaggia service and request a traditional machine instead, or just get some capsules and enjoy
Hope this helps!

I have just purchased a Gaggia L’Amante Caffitaly machine and wondered if you can use any pods/capsules with this machine or do they have to be from callitaly

Hi Karen,
All Caffitaly machines use the Caffitaly capsules only.
This is an open system, so different coffee manufacturers make capsules for the system, but you can’t use just any capsule, like a Nespresso capsule.
You can read about where to buy Caffitaly capsules in my post.

Looks like 2.70 per pack. You can get it online on Amazon or a quick search on google will give you some other options – The price should be 2.70 everywhere.

In Thailand Caffitaly machines S01 & S04 and capsules from Ecaffe & Wcafe are today available at approx. same pricing than in europe. Competitors there are the Lavazza blue from Italy (via Coffee Works) and the Cremesso System (via Boncafe) from Switzerland, but both are >50% more expensive than Caffita in the Thai market. Nespresso still does not officially import to most of SE-Asia, only Singapore has official shops.
