NESCAFÉ’s Dolce Gusto™ is Nestle’s answer to the Tassimo system and is a hot beverage system with its own unique coffee machine and capsules that produce hot beverages like espresso, cappuccino, latte and hot chocolate. The machine for the system is the Krups Nescafe Dolce Gusto. The capsules are made by Nescafe with a variety of flavors, including milk based beverages. This is an exciting coffee maker of the traditional coffee handle type by Gaggia. It has 2 boilers to separate the heating operations for the water and milk (Rapid stream method). This means that the Gaggia Baby Twin can froth your milk and brew the coffee at the same time without switching between modes. If you recently bought a Nespresso capsule system machine, or looking to buy one, you will need a supply of capsules from day 1 if you want to use the machine. Nespresso has great online service. All you have to do is register online and you can start ordering capsules online. It usually takes 2 days to arrive.

I am not certain about this, but I did read online that you can get the capsules at Selfridges & Co and at John Lewis.

Nespresso Capsules – Prices

Between 0.25 GBP and 0.29 GBP per capsule. Capsules are ordered in multiples of 50 for packing reasons.

A recent comment from one of our readers states that there’s a £4.95 postage charge on a purchase of Nespresso coffee capsules through the company website. So for an order of 50 capsules, you would pay 27 pence X 50 capsules plus £4.95 postage charge. This equals £18.45, which makes the nominal price per cup of coffee 36.9 pence. On Monday, May 25th 2009, Philips announced that it would acquire Saeco International Group, after settling an agreement with Saeco‘s banks over Saeco’s outstanding debt. The purchase sum has not been disclosed.

Saeco is the Italian based leading espresso machines company and is controlled by PAI Partners. The company, which also makes machines under the well known Gaggia brand, produces traditional coffee machines, capsule system coffee machines, and bean to cup coffee machines. All together it has 30% of the European market, and has reportadly sold 318 million Euro over the 12 months that ended March 31.

Philips among others, holds the technology behind the Senseo coffee machines, which produce espressos using coffee pods, with a Philips coffee machine.

Caffitaly

The Caffitaly System (or Caffita System) is one of the capsule systems for brewing coffee beverages such as espresso, and other beverages as tea. In order to use capsules of the Caffitaly system one has to use the dedicated coffee machines designed for those capsules. The system was developed by the Italian company Gaggia.

Gaggia is also a coffee machine making company, so naturally Gaggia machines, such as the Gaggia Caffitaly K111D home coffee maker are compatible with the system. However, other machine makers such as Saceo with their Saceo Office machine are also compatible.

Welcome the newest member of the NESCAFÉ’s Dolce Gusto™ System. The Dolce Gusto Circolo.

The Circolo like its predecessor  is manufactured for Nestle by Krups. You may find this machine also labeled as Krups KP 5000. The Circolo uses specially designed capsules by Nestle, different blends of air tight packed coffee grounds, or other hot beverages like hot chocolate, and milk. You can buy the capsules at major stores or get them online.
